Grand Island Wiener Dog Races at Platt Duetsche
Five NDR Board Members, Cheryl, Rhonda, Vicky, Noelle, and Beth...and two honorary board members, Javan (Rhonda's son) and Bob (Noelle's husband) made the trip in Bob and Noelle's motorhome.
Just found this on YouTube (March 30, 2009). Teena is at 46 seconds! If you see your dog, let me know the time and I'll give them a shout out!
The trip down -
Before we picked everyone up, Bob had three co-pilots - Linus, Jeau, and Teena. Actually, they wanted to be wherever I was. Linus was our only official, full-time co-pilot

Double decker wiener dogs - Cheryl holding Eli and Cooper
Wiener dogs were coming out of all the cracks. Teena is peeking out from behind Beth
Poor Jeau....he needed some ACE for the trip. His eyes are glazed. And everyone enjoyed playing with Jeau's crazy crazy hair.
At the event -
We made a grand entrance : )
We learned a few tricks from the other booths...such as putting our pen around our table so that our dogs can be near us and enjoy some shade from the table
The Wyoming Dachshund Rescue table was right next to us (you can only see part of it)
And, appropriately, they were selling cowboy hats...
Buddy Joe was really enjoying this (yeah)
and he enjoyed it even more over his eyes ; )
And Hearts United for Animals was two booths away
The Races -
Can you believe that I didnt actually get any photos of the races?? Everytime I headed to the track, I had an armload of dog : )
Thanks to the Grand Island Independent for these photos -
Just for the record, Big-Nose Linus won his heat in the 10th race....and DIDNT make it to the finals! We were all really bummed out. Rather than timing each and every dog, I think they should just run the winners of each heat. Hmpf!
Big Nose Linus
And the reason we call him Big-Nose -
The Trip Home -
Thanks, Bob, for being our bus driver : )
Everyone was completely pooped out. All those dogs are sleeping...
and Eli and Cooper passed out...
and our adoption coordinator, Rhonda (with Buddy Joe on her lap) hard at work ; )
When we stopped to get fuel, Daddy's rats (Linus, Teena, and Jeau) were all on the dashboard watching his every move.
Our Gang -
